Classical Libya Tour for Schools![]() This is a gentle cultural tour accompanied by a Simoon Travel guide. Hotel accommodation throughout this tour is in decent 3* hotels. This tour is an abridged week long version of the Classical Libya tour. Day 1Arrive in Tripoli: Explore the charming city of Tripoli with its souks and Italianate streets and squares and enjoy a meal in a lively restaurant. Day 2![]() Ruins of Sabratha: The ancient Roman city of Sabratha is one of the most well preserved sites in the world today with a spectacular theatre over looking the sea. Day 3![]() Magnificent Leptis Magna: The city of Leptis Magna is one of the highlights of any Libyan tour. An extensive site, Leptis Magna was once one of the most extravagantly appointed cities in the Roman Empire. Day 4![]() Cyrenaica: Tolmeitha and Qasr Libya: Fly to Benghazi. Visit Tolmeitha, formerly Ptolemais and part of the Cyrenaican Pentapolis. Drive through the Green mountains to see the Byzantine mosaics of Qasr Libya. Day 5Cyrene: Cyrene was the premier city of the Pentapolis and is set in a Mediterranean landscape with spectacular views over the coastal plains. Day 6![]() Apollonia and Ras al Hillal: Visit the ancient port of Apollonia right on the beach and explore the pretty coastal area around the town of Ras al Hillal. Day 7Tripoli Museum and Depart: The Museum in Tripoli is a "must-see", housing one of the largest collections of classical art in the world as well as the remarkable Qaddafi gallery. Our journey starts with a visit to the magnificent Roman cities of Sabratha and Leptis Magna and then along the coast towards Benghazi exploring the eastern area of Libya known as Cyrenaica. The week will be spent visiting some of the finest ancient Greek sites of the Pentapolis including Apollonia, Cyrene, Tocra and Tolmeitha, all of which overlook the sea. The journey takes you through the Jebel Akhdar (Green Mountains), the highest mountains in Libya, where the legendary Omar al Muhktar fought a fierce resistance against the Italians in the 1920s. You will visit splendid mosaics, prehistoric caves and enjoy spectacular views of the Mediterranean from the mountains that border the sea.
